I was at Thrive Church the other evening. We worship in a warehouse building. I love it. It is very versatile, but because it is a warehouse, there are very few light switches, and none of them are conveniently located. I left something in the sanctuary, and went through the “side door” because it was the closest to me. Unfortunately, there are no light switches at this door. As I opened it and looked in, I saw that it was incredibly dark, even with some light peering in from the door I was getting ready to walk through. I took out my iPhone, and launched my flashlight app, but it hardly gives out any light – I could hardly see…

I was approached Sunday morning after church by one of our folks who wanted to share with me that her ex-husband, his new wife and their son had started a personal relationship with Jesus Christ a few days earlier. I had heard many very disturbing and alarming stories about this couple. When she shared this good news, I realized that I had given up on them, and was immediately convicted by the Holy Spirit.

Sometimes I hesitate to reference popular culture because I can quickly date myself. I’ve always thought Coca-Cola did a great job with their commercials. One of my favorites is the one with the jingle “I’d Like to Teach the World to Sing.” Are you old enough to remember the Coca-Cola commercials with the slogan “Have a Coke and a Smile?”
Today, at work, one of my co-workers (and friend) set a very cold Diet Coke on my desk. And immediately I smiled. Here’s the thing: I knew it was coming. Moments earlier, he asked me if I would like a Diet Coke. In my mind, I was already thinking about that super cold nectar with its silky foam, and that sweet burn as the carbonation hit my throat.
