Ironic Preaching and Teaching

Have you ever preached a sermon and then have someone after the service approach you and say, “wow pastor, that sermon went right along with our Sunday school lesson?” Sometimes those things happen because the preaching and teaching Scripture were led of the Lord and it was a total “God thing.”  Sometimes, however, you actually planned it that way because somewhere along the way you’ve realized that it’s OK for the preaching event and the teaching event to coincide.

Here’s a hint if you’re the type that likes Biblical learning to gel together in the pulpit and in the classroom.  WordAction has a downloadable list of themes and studies that will guide you on what the adult, children, and teens of your church will learn in small group or Sunday school through February 2010.  This outline is coined by the fancy phrase - scope and sequence.  If you were to click here you could download this scope and sequence and use it as a preaching reference for the next year.  You could actually be preaching and teaching through the WordAction curriculum if you so choose.

So, I’m curious does this scope and sequence download come as a nice surpise to you?  If your church uses the Adult Faith Connections curriculum from WordAction would you use the scope and sequence to help you shape a sermon series to match the lessons?  Could this resource be of any help to you at all?  Does anyone see a connect between group learning and preaching or is it just me?
