I was surfing the net for over a day now. I was looking for the best Sabbath story. And I think your story is one of the best. It was very interesting and very fun to read.

[...] Thinking About Getting Some Rest Leanne and I are watching our calendar fill up and thinking about all the work that will be required to take a group of teens to Ecuador in August. We already feel tired. Perhaps we need to learn what it really means to take a sabbath. [...]

If it helps, our board does give our Pastor time away with his wife (we even arrange for child care if needed). We also support and push time off for refreshing. We want him to be in top form, and we all know that requires down time to replensih.

A previous church I attended REQUIRED the pastor to take sabbattical time periodically, by himself. They wanted to be sure he didn't push it off if he was a workaholic. The pastor at that time told us he thought it was silly until he took the time, got a rail pass, and spent a week or so on a train just riding around the country, reading, praying and meditating. He came back and said he'd never question it again.

I think Palmer's suggestion is absolutely livable and a really good idea.
